He help found the Roman Catholic mission in the Gambier Islands and was one of the first Catholic missionaries to arrive in the Kingdom of Tahiti where he was expelled by the Protestant queen Pōmare IV and British missionary George Pritchard.〔(【引用サイトリンク】work=Paroisse de la Cathédrale de Papeete )〕 In 1840, Caret was appointed to succeed Chrysostome Liausu as Prefect Apostolic of Southern Oceania.〔(【引用サイトリンク】work=Paroisse de la Cathédrale de Papeete )〕 Caret died in 26 October 1844 in Rikitea on his way back to Bordeaux.
